America’s Most Wanted Painting America’s Least Wanted Painting the book about the project Komar & Melamid		Vitaly Komar & Alexander Melamid use their art to provoke serious thinking and laughter about our art and culture. In 1993, they focused on our belief in polls and market research. They hired a professional polling firm to find out what Americans like to see in a painting—What color? What subject? What size? Most of the people polled voted for a big painting—peaceful, realistic a blue landscape. They wanted to see children and historical figures, and maybe some animals. Most people did not want to see a small painting with abstract shapes, sharp corners, and hot colors. After studying the numbers, the artists painted their own version pf America’s Most Wanted painting and America’s Least Wanted paintings.
