The Levy Gallery Artists Registry and database is the largest source of information about artists in the nine-county Philadelphia area. The database at the galleries holds the work of 1,500 artists and includes 25,000 slides. Search our online Registry through any of 9 criteria; we show images of two works by each artist.
The Levy Gallery program and the Levy Gallery Artists Registry transcend traditional boundaries that often separate artists by race, ethnicity, gender, age, and educational background. Free of charge and open to all interested artists working in any medium, the registry makes accessible a broad range of work to students, curators, and arts professionals.

The Selections series, begun in 1994, insures the currency of the Artists Registry, sparks new associations, and raises new questions. Exhibitions in this series rely upon a guest curator to select works from the Registry to bring the fresh perspective of a nationally recognized arts professional to the works of 1,500 local artists housed in the archives. Past exhibitions include: "Philadelphia Selections 1," curated by Terrie Sultan, curator of contemporary art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art; the multi-media "Social Register: Identity and Community in Philadelphia," (1996) curated by cultural historian, art critic, and senior fellow at the Vera List Center for Art and Politics of the New School for Social Research, Maurice Berger; and a photography exhibition, "Nine Seers," (1998) curated by Charles Biasiny-Rivera, photographer and founder and executive director of En Foco, Inc., a community arts organization in the Bronx.
Artists living or working in the nine-county Philadelphia area are invited to send slides and information to the registry. As well as through individual mailings, the registry has collaborated with other local institutions to consistently keep our lists up-dated and supplemented with new work. Since 1995, following the announcements of fellowship awards, the Pew Fellowships in the Arts forwards slides from its visual arts applicants to the artists registry.
The onsite database facilitates efficient use of the registry. Artists, curators, and collectors who search the archive can identify artists working in specific styles, mediums, and genres. To visit onsite, call 215.965.4052 or email (below) for an appointment. There is not charge.
Through the generous support of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the William Penn Foundation, Pew Fellowships in the Arts, and Michael De Luca, we are pleased to offer this website at no cost to participating artists.
