In July 2002, Gallery staff traveled to the Primos Library in Delaware County to present the “About Face” workshop to twenty-one children ranging in age from 7 to 11.

Using the paintings of Mary Cassatt and Alice Neel and the sculpture of Mark Manders as examples, the children were asked to respond to the distinct interpretations of portraiture offered by each and to look for clues to the personalities of each subject in these works of art. Following a 30-minute presentation, the children were invited to create their own self-portraits.
