Catalog for the exhibition Dan Graham: Public/Private. Originating at the
Galleries at Moore (September 7October 17, 1993), the exhibition traveled to
MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, MA
(January 15March 27, 1994); Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto
(June 24September 17, 1994); and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions
(LACE, NovemberDecember 1994).
This is the first survey of work by conceptual artist
Dan Graham. An artistic associate of Sol LeWitt, Robert Smithson,
Donald Judd, and Dan Flavin, Graham uses photographs and installations to probe
the relationship between public and private architecture and the ways
in which these spaces affect public behavior. Full color photographs of
installations and the artist's explanations of vision and artistic
practice complement authoritative essays by some of contemporary art's most noted
critics and curators. Texts include
Video in Relation to Architecture by Dan Graham;
Dan Graham: At the Edges by Mark Francis;
Social Studies by Christina Ritchie; and
Selected Works with Illustrative Notes by Dan Graham.
