From the catalog:

I was employed at the “Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Gugging” . . . in 1946, immediately after my graduation . . . and am thankful for it. Where else would I have been able to discover the artists Johann Hauser and Oswald Tschirtner, the poet Ernst Herbeck, the versatile August Walla!
—Leo Navratil

The south front of the house . . . was decorated by the artists in 1983. In 1988 they have also painted large parts of the east front. Johann Fischer chose “Eve” as a theme, Oswald Tschirtner birds, Franz Kamlander various animals. August Walla painted a deity and went over figures by Oswald Tschirtner once more, which the latter had drawn on the side parts of the wall with a thick felt pen years ago and which were already strongly bleached. Johann Garber filled the edges of the wall with representations of insects and also painted a sky with an aeroplane, clouds, and stars. Arnold Schmidt put two red-white figures in the middle of the wall, directly above the entrance.
—Johann Feilacher

If it is true that “Genius is infinite refound childhood” (Baudelaire) then genius is likewise the activity of an adult who has rediscovered the ability to play with the psychotic dispositions of his childhood which so far had been repressed in adulthood.
— Michel Thévoz
