Sibling Rivalry The meaning of the imagery is immediately clear. Anyone with brothers and sisters knows the toy tally taken on gift-giving holidays. The addition of “hers” and “mine” to the traditional Christmas snapshot (“Let me take your photograph under the tree “) evokes feelings of territoriality familiar enough to laugh at. These snapshots, with only apparent changes in time, suggest the sustaining of a ritual and evoke a feeling of calm. The windowframes suggest a feeling that is at once playful and nasty [1987].
