Lavishly illustrated catalog for the exhibition Dieter Roth: Printed
Pressed Bound
at the Galleries at Moore, May 26July 31, 1986. Organized from the Albertina Graphic Collection in Vienna by guest curator Felicitas Thun.
Includes My Eye Is a Mouth by Felicitas Thun,
Was That SomethingOn the Poetry of Dieter Roth by Ferdinand Schmatz,
and
Conversation with Dieter Roth, Basel, February 1998 by Felicitas Thun.
The catalog strongly supports the ongoing reassessment of this
protean talent as a forerunner of today's process- and materials-oriented
artists. With examples of work from each of Roth's many phases: drawings,
graphic works, assemblages, and books (including early work with links
to Constructivism), as well as Literwurst, Hegel's 20-volume oeuvre, ground up and
stuffed into sausage skins, Dieter Roth: Printed Pressed Bound highlights a
particularly arresting body of work by this singular artist-provocateur, who died in
June 1998.
The exhibition and catalog were organized by the Albertina Museum in
Vienna from
their own collection, the objects brought together over the years by Roth's close
friend Kurt Kalb. Guest curator Feliticas Thun worked with Roth and interviewed
himshortly before his deathfor the catalog. The exhibition
was seen in the United States only at Moore
